ABOUT US
About the Aviation Health Association
The Aviation Health Association (AHA) was founded in 1970 for educational, scientific, and flight safety purposes. AHA represents its member professional pilots in working with the FAA, their airlines, and employee unions to promote health awareness and medical issues affecting airline pilots. Led by Dr. Fred Tilton & Dr. Mike Berry, former US Federal Air Surgeons, members receive representation to the FAA Medical Certification Division. Whether you need FAA Certification Assistance Representation or lobbying to effect policy changes, our full-time staff of doctors, nurses, and FAA trained medical consultants are here to help members. By phone or email, member pilots or group leaders can call to find out what medications are FAA approved, alternative treatment plans, FAA Certification documentation requirements, and have our doctors present their case to the FAA for consideration.
We help expedite pilot cases in review with the FAA. We know that when professional pilots are grounded, our full time staff of Senior AME’s, Flight Surgeon Nurses, and AME trained medical consultants are here for pilots when there’s nowhere else to turn.
Today, tens of thousands of pilots represented by the Association as an individual or group member rely on AHA as voice to the FAA Medical Division. Whether it is Cardiac Review Board delays or partnering with AOPA and A4A (Airlines 4 America) on the topic of Sleep Apnea pending regulations, the Aviation Health Association is here to serve its members.
We are a proud member of the Aerospace Medical Association and the Civil Aviation Medical Association. The AHA gives an award annually at both to the doctor who has contributed most to health and research for Professional Pilots.
Founder’s Notes
The Aviation Health Association (AHA) was founded in 1970 for educational, scientific, and flight safety purposes by Harvey Watt, Sr. As an Eastern Airline Captain, he saw first hand the need for pilots to have a voice and to be informed when it came to issues affecting their FAA Medical Certifiate. AHA represents its member professional pilots in working with the FAA, their airlines, and employee unions to promote health awareness and medical issues affecting airline pilots.
